Yamashita’s 2nd single,
Loveless is an amazing mix of Pop-ballads, a little Rock and some Techno. The title song itself is a lovely track that I have no problem listening to at anytime. That I was expecting. What I wasn’t expecting was how much I would like the other tracks.
Crush on You give Yamashita a nice song to work with. It has a nice rock flavour to it, while remaining true to the pop/techno-feel that the overall single has. Yamashita has improved tremendously. The song has me dancing along by the time the first chorus rolls in.
Run from You is by far the best song on this single. The beats funky and the guitar gives it a nice Latin feel, while still making it an edgy song about the thrill of the chase. Once again, Yamashita’s English has improved so much that I can understand everything he says in this song.
ME has its ups and downs. The opening has me jumping all over the room & chanting “ME” along with it. Not much to it after that, but it’s still a nice song to just listen to.
Moon Light is another favourite of mine, though it’s pretty sexy. The chorus makes me think of a couple dancing together in a ballroom. It’s got a nice easy, funk feel to it.
Dance Jam is really what the title says. A dance jam, where all you’re just supposed to do is dance. It has a sort of 70s Disco vibe to it. It didn’t make me dance.
After the Rain seems like a song I would like, but I didn’t. It’s cute and a typical ballad, but it sort of ruins the flow of the single. Maybe if I listened to it on its own, it’s nice, but after
Crush on You and
Dance Jam, it really just doesn’t fit. I can’t appreciate it like this.
Overall,
Loveless is a great single. Packed with a bunch of great songs, it shows us how much Yamashita has grown from his ‘
Daite Senorita’ single.
